FITNESS DURING LOCKDOWN

Posted by WIMWI Foods Private Limited on

Now, instead of pondering over the news about Covid-19 and unnecessarily losing your calm, its time for you to be more creative to get fit during this lockdown.

With no movement outside the house, it has become very important for all of us to stay fit more than ever. Luckily you can get enough exercise and movement by some simple exercise with less or no equipment at all!

At the end of the day, it’s just about eating right(not diet, just eating right) and keep moving your body, no matter how you’re moving!

Here are ways you can stay fit from the comfort of your home with these tips:

NUTRITION

To be fit you should also eat fit. During the lockdown, it’s hard to stock for fresh fruits and veggies but dry goodies like oats, nuts, whole-wheat pasta, brown rice, canned beans, and frozen veggies can give you essential nutritional value.

If you already have them stocked, it’s okay. Remember that you can get creative in your kitchen and still be able to eat healthy. Eat foods like Dal, Roti, Sabji made from Mung beans, black-eyed peas, kidney beans, lentils, pulses, and chickpeas, which are a good option to stay healthy and full. No diet, just healthy!

Rice or millets with generous servings of seasonal veggies have been an all time favorite and works wonders for your body.

Oats are among the healthiest grains around and are incredibly nutritious. They are a good source of carbs, fiber, protein, vitamins and minerals. And since it is also filling, this may help you lose weight as well.

Work from home could mean a lot of snacking. Nuts are a great source of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, and at the same time, not fattening!! Ensure you do not over eat as well.

EXERCISE

Despite its importance, social distancing has been a social disappointment for many gym-goers and fitness freaks. Fortunately, there are plenty of at-home exercises that are enough to kick your butt and get you moving. It is recommended that everyone must exercise for at least 30 mins a day to keep a healthy body and mind.

The best part is you don’t have to sit and plan your exercise. There are already plenty of options available on the internet. All you need is some equipment like a Yoga Mat.

A few favorites:

Yoga: The COVID-19 pandemic is already surging up people’s stress levels more than ever and staying at home only makes it worse. Harvard medical also recommends Yoga and meditation to deal with anxiety during the COVID-19 outbreak.

For people who feel sleepy doing Yoga or are not that fond, suggesting you try some Yoga sessions by Yoga with Adriene, her sessions are super fun, engaging and easy to follow!

Bodyweight exercises: When people think of cardio they usually think of running or cycling. But, truth be told, hitting the pavement is just one cardio option, and there are other ways to get a cardio kick.

Skipping: This is one of the best ways to stay fit without stepping out of the home. You can also make it fun by doing a skipping challenge with your partner or roommates. The benefits you get from jump rope are quite similar to running. It enhances your speed, power, balance, and endurance.

The Stairs: See, it’s not that hard at all to get fit at your home. Stairs give you a good workout for your leg muscles since you have to constantly lift your body upwards.

HIIT/Circuit training: What we really love about HIIT is that it is easily scalable and convenient, meaning you can do it in the comfort of your own house without paying for hefty gym fees. All you need is your body, a bit of space, and off you go. Circuits and HIIT are also so effective at burning calories and maximizing fitness gains.

Mental fitness: Being fit mentally is as important as physical during this pandemic. Find ways to stick to your normal routine as much as possible so that you have less time worrying. Choose activities that give you purpose and soothes you like meditating, reading books or playing with your kids. Watch movies and series that make you laugh hard. Fun and meaningful experiences reduces the stress hormones and gives you a good dose of dopamine!

Above all, stay well hydrated, maintain hygiene, wash your hands and stay home. Also, it’s important that you get enough sleep to maintain overall fitness. This lockdown can be a great time to achieve your dream weight and restore good health.
